FEC approves advisory opinion, Audit Division recommendation memorandum

January 12, 2023

WASHINGTON – At its open meeting today, the Federal Election Commission approved an advisory opinion. The Commission approved an Audit Division Recommendation Memorandum before the meeting and held over a second Audit Division Recommendation Memorandum.

Advisory Opinion 2022-25 (Senator Mike Crapo/Mike Crapo for U. S. Senate) The Commission approved an advisory opinion in response to a request from Crapo for U.S. Senate, the principal campaign committee of Senator Michael D. Crapo (the Committee). The Commission concluded that Senator Crapo may use campaign funds to install certain security features in his homes in Washington, D.C. and Idaho because they would be ordinary and necessary expenses incurred in connection with the Senator’s duties as an officeholder. During the discussion, the Commission heard from Counsel for the requestor.
