Affiliation between political party committees

Affiliated committees share the same limits on contributions received and made.

A district or local party committee lists the state party committee as an affiliate. Local committees are presumed to be under the direction and control of the state committee—and thus affiliated with the state committee—unless they can demonstrate otherwise.

A state party committee lists all affiliated local party committees. (It should not list local party organizations.)

A national party committee lists any committees it has established, financed, maintained or controlled. However, a national committee does not list state or local party committees, since they are not considered affiliated with the national committee for purposes of the contribution limits. A party’s Senate and House campaign committees are also not considered affiliated with the national committee for purposes of the contribution limits.
